A Priest Transmog Guide, Part 1: Dungeons, Raids, & Recolors

Over the next day or so I’m going to be making a (hopefully) comprehensive guide to not only the “official” priest sets, but also a number of sets that I think would just be good for priests in transmogrification and roleplay. We’re lucky enough that almost all of our sets look fantastic.

Do note that these posts will be rather image-heavy, with large images. They’re all on the blood elf female model by default, they seem to be the best for display purposes.

These sets are only for looks, not stats, so, say, on the priest level 70 Brutal set, I’ve included only the matching Mooncloth belt, and not the Silk belt, which is what a shadow priest would pick. I’ve also done my best to find matching belts and boots for those sets beyond tier 3. (By “matching” I mean “matches it exactly and is the same ilevel or in the same tier of raiding.) I’ve also used the DPS set names by default, but if you want the healing names, pretty much just throw “raiment” wherever it says “regalia” and you’re good to go. I also haven’t bothered to list pants or matching bracers, since you can’t see them on any of the sets, but if you want them then I can find them.

I haven’t included tier 13, as the files aren’t out yet. Once those are I’ll update this list retroactively, because I’m OCD it might be helpful.

I find that a lot of transmog guides are confusing or not comprehensive (for example, don’t list where lookalikes can be found) so I hope this is helpful to you all!

Vanilla Dungeon Sets

Dungeon set 1 was previously available from high-end vanilla dungeons, and set 2 was an upgrade of those items via quests. When Cataclysm came these items were removed from the game for, apparently, no reason, but they will be re-added in 4.3 – only this time, they’ll be obtainable from the Darkmoon Faire, as vanity items only (they won’t have stats). Since we don’t know much about these, I don’t have any sources to list right now, other than to hang around there once the patch hits.

Burning Crusade Dungeon Sets

Dungeon set 3 is intended to be for priests only and has priest stats on it. (I believe it used to have a Priest class restriction, too.) 3B is intended to be used by all three cloth classes. The reputation set is available only to priests and is geared for PVP, but obtained by PVE.

Dungeon Set 3
Helm: Hallowed Crown, Harbinger Skyriss, Arcatraz
Shoulders: Hallowed Pauldrons, Grandmaster Vorpil, Shadow Labyrinth
Chest: Hallowed Garments, Murmur, Shadow Labyrinth
Hands: Hallowed Handwraps, Warchief Kargath Bladefist, Shattered Halls

Dungeon Set 3B
Helm: Mana-Etched Crown, Aeonus, Black Morass
Shoulders: Mana-Etched Spaulders, Quagmirran, Slave Pens (heroic)
Chest: Mana-Etched Vestments, Epoch Hunter, Escape from Durnholde Keep (heroic)
Hands: Mana-Etched Gloves, Omor the Unscarred, Hellfire Ramparts (heroic)

Dungeon Reputations
There are two versions of this set: Mooncloth, with healing stats, and Satin, with DPS stats. Since the pieces to purchase are arranged differently I’ve listed both.
Helm: Satin Hood, purchased from Quartermaster Ugronn in Thrallmar or Logistics Officer Urike in Honor Hold at Honored reputation with either OR Mooncloth Cowl, purchased from Almaador in Shattrath City at honored reputation with Sha’tar
Shoulders: Satin Mantle, purchased from Almaador in Shattrath City at honored reputation with Sha’tar OR Mooncloth Shoulderpads, purchased from Fedryen Swiftspear in Cenarion Refuge at honored reputation with Cenarion Expedition
Chest: Satin Robe, purchased from Fedryen Swiftspear in Cenarion Refuge at honored reputation with Cenarion Expedition OR Mooncloth Vestments, purchased from Quartermaster Ugronn in Thrallmar or Logistics Officer Urike in Honor Hold at Honored reputation with either
Hands: Satin Gloves, purchased from Alurmi in Caverns of Time at honored reputation with Keepers of Time OR Mooncloth Mitts, purchased from Nakodu in Shattrath City at honored reputation with Lower City

Vanilla Raid Tiers

Click the image for a larger version.

Vanilla raid tiers can be in a state of limbo. While tiers 1 and 2 are stil there untouched, tier 3 has been removed from the game (it dropped in the original Naxxramas). The Zandalar Tribe set, which was essentially the Zul’gurub “tier” never counted, and has since been removed from the game. The Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj (AQ20) set also never counted as a tier (and really, it was a ring, cloak, and hammer, which is why I didn’t include it) and neither does the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj (AQ 40) set, but we still have it. These tiers can also take a while to get, as they don’t operate off a token system.

Tier 1: Vestments of Prophecy
All set pieces for this tier drop in Molten Core. Molten Core, by the way, is pretty easy for a priest to solo at 85. You can ninjawalk past most of the trash mobs, including the corehounds that have to die at the same time. You might have a bit of problem on Shazzrah due to counterspell, but as long as you keep an eye on your health, you’ll be fine. Make sure you get your attunement! It’s a simple lavaswim through BRD.
Helm: Circlet of Prophecy, Garr OR as a lookalike quest reward from the class quest available at level 50 (see a trainer in the main cities)
Shoulders: Mantle of Prophecy, Sulfuron Harbinger
Chest: Robes of Prophecy, Golemagg the Incinerator
Hands: Gloves of Prophecy, Gehennas
Belt: Girdle of Prophecy, Trash Mobs (the belt is BoE, so you might be able to find it on the AH.)
Boots: Boots of Prophecy, Shazzrah

Tier 2: Vestments of Transcendence
All set pieces for this tier drop in Blackwing Lair. (Except for the pants, which drop off of Ragnaros in MC, if you want those.) BWL would be soloable, but it’s not because of the mechanics of the first two bosses. Luckily, it’s going to be easier to get groups for now with transmog. A lot of classes really like their tier 2 sets, especially rogues. Make sure you get your attunement – this one is long and annoying (you have to run UBRS), but once you have it then you won’t have to do it again.
Helm: Halo of Transcendence, Nefarian
Shoulders: Pauldrons of Transcendence, Chromaggus (BTW, Chromaggus is a popular hunter tame – try to avoid running with those that want him :3)
Chest: Robes of Transcendence, Nefarian
Hands: Handguards of Trascendence, Firemaw, Ebonroc, or Flamegor
Belt: Belt of Transcendence, Vaelastrasz the Corrupt
Boots: Boots of Transcendence, Broodlord Lashlayer

Brood of Nozdormu: Garments of the Oracle
This set is obtained by finishing quests that require you to get a lot of items from the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj, AKA AQ40. And boy, will you be running it a lot. It’s not soloable, either, as far as I know – the twins still need a decently sized group. The quests used to require Brood of Nozdormu reputation as well, but most likely don’t anymore. The quests are picked up from Andorgos, Kandrostrasz, and Vethsera within the temple, just after the first boss. However, you don’t need the quests to get the items, so I’d recommend just waiting to get them until you have them so they’re not in your logs forever.
Helm: Tiara of the Oracle, requires Vek’nilash’s Circlet from Emperor Vek’nilash, 2 Idols of the Sage, 5 Silver Scarabs, and 5 Bone Scarabs
Shoulders: Mantle of the Oracle, requires Qiraji Bindings of Command from Princess Huhuran or Viscidus, 2 Idols of Rebirth, 5 Ivory Scarabs, and 5 Silver Scarabs
Chest: Vestments of the Oracle, requires Husk of the Old God from C’Thun, 2 Idols of Death, 5 Stone Scarabs, and 5 Crystal Scarabs
Boots: Footwraps of the Oracle, requires Qiraji Bindings of Command from Princess Huhuran or Viscidus, 2 Idols of Death, 5 Bronze Scarabs, and 5 Gold Scarabs

Burning Crusade: Tiers 4 & 5

Burning Crusade introduced a token way of getting gear. Instead of just trying to get the one thing to drop, instead, you’d get the token and then exchange it. This allowed them to introduce multiple version of gear, too, so finally, shadow priests could now have DPS gear. Getting the BC tiers is fairly easy – people love to run these raids. The design of BC gear and raids are consistently hailed as the best.

Tier 4: Incarnate Regalia
You’re in luck on this one. Karazhan can be soloed at 85 (walk past most of the trash mobs – they’re more likely to kill you than the boss. Skip Maiden of Virtue, too, she doesn’t drop a token and her silence effect makes it difficult for a caster to really do anything. Also, cross your fingers and hope your Opera event isn’t Little Red Riding Hood.) and Magtheridon’s Lair can be done by 2 if you’re good. (Try a prot pally and a disc priest. It was amazing.)

Turn in your tokens in Shattrath City to Asuur for Aldor-aligned players or Arodis Sunblade for Scryers-aligned players.

Helm: Helm of the Fallen Defender, Prince Malchezzar, Karazhan
Shoulders: Pauldrons of the Fallen Defender, High King Maulgar, Gruul’s Lair
Chest: Chestguard of the Fallen Defender, Magtheridon, Magtheridon’s Lair
Hands: Gloves of the Fallen Defender, The Curator, Karazhan
Belt: Cincture of Will, Terestian Illhoof, Karazhan
Boots: Boots of the Incorrupt, Shade of Aran, Karazhan

Tier 5: Avatar Regalia
Tier 5 is probably the most popular priest tier, and it’s pretty easy to see why. While you probably would have a difficult time soloing either of these dungeons, like I said, it isn’t too hard to find a group for the BC raids. I couldn’t find a matching belt for this, unfortunately. The Nethershard Girdle from Moroes in Karazhan sort of matches if you look at it sideways.

Turn in your tokens in Shattrath City to Kelara for Aldor-aligned players or Verynna Dawnstar for Scryers-aligned players.

Helm: Helm of the Vanquished Defender, Lady Vashj, Serpentshrine Cavern
Shoulders: Pauldrons of the Vanquished Defender, Void Reaver, Tempest Keep: The Eye
Chest: Chestguard of the Vanquished Defender, Kael’thas Sunstrider, Tempest Keep: The Eye
Hands: Gloves of the Vanquished Defender, Leotheras the Blind, Serpentshrine Cavern
Boots: Soul-Strider Boots, Fathom-Lord Karathress, Serpentshrine Cavern

Burning Crusade: Tier 6

Tier 6 is a little weird because while it has tokens for a full set, including bracers, belt, and boots…they don’t match. This is presumably because these tokens drop in Sunwell Plateau, which was added after the other two. But there are models that match in game. So I included both. 8| Lazy Blizzard.

Tier 6: Absolution Regalia
For the helm, shoulders, chest, and pants, turn in your tokens to Tydormu inside the Battle for Mount Hyjal instance. Remember, you need to be in a raid group to enter. For the belt, bracers, and boots, turn them in to Theremis, on a boat in the Sun’s Reach Harbor on the Isle of Quel’danas.

Helm: Helm of the Forgotten Conqueror, Archimonde, The Battle for Mount Hyjal
Shoulders: Pauldrons of the Forgotten Conqueror, Mother Shahraz, Black Temple
Chest: Chestguard of the Forgotten Conqueror, Illidan Stormrage, Black Temple
Hands: Gloves of the Forgotten Conqueror, Azgalor, The Battle for Mount Hyjal
Belt: Belt of the Forgotten Conqueror, Brutallus, Sunwell Plateau (Matching: Belt of Divine Guidance, Illidari Council, Black Temple)
Boots: Boots of the Forgotten Conqueror, Felmyst, Sunwell Plateau (Matching: Archbishop’s Slippers, Anetheron, The Battle for Mount Hyjal)

Wrath of the Lich King Tier 7 & 7.5

Tier 7 & 7.5 are reskins using the same ideas and themes present in the original tier 3 sets. Some of the tokens for each set can be purchased using justice points, but not all of them. It’s worth knowing that the helms for both sets look exactly the same, so you can knock that off your list.

Turn in your tokens to Paldesse at The Threads of Fate in Dalaran.

Tier 7: Heroes’ Regalia of Faith
These items drop in the 10 man versions of their respective raids.
Helm: Helm of the Lost Conqueror, Kel’thuzad, Naxxramas

Tier 9: Velen’s/Zabra’s Regalia
These items are purchased with justice points. The Alliance and Horde versions look the same, as do the different ilevel versions. If you want the higher ilevel ones, you need to run Trial of the Crusader for the appropriate trophy. ilevel 245 requires a Trophy of the Grand Crusader along with their original justice points cost, and ilevel 258 requires the Regalia of the Grand Conqueror token.

These can be purchased from Rueben Lauren at the Threads of Fate in Dalaran or Aspirant Naradiel at the Argent Tournament.
Helm: 591 justice points

I didn’t include the belt drop from XT-002 Deconstructor, Conductive Cord, as it is red in tint and doesn’t match anything else in the set. It’s a slightly different shade from the Lifespark Visage’s red. I’m…not sure why I included that, actually.
Helm: Lifespark Visage, Flame Leviathan (10 man)
Shoulders: Mantle of Wavering Calm, XT-002 Deconstructor OR Mantle of the Unknowing, General Vezax. Both are from 25 man.
